Black History Month books children actually work through
The official UK theme for Black History Month 2026 is Honouring Our Communities: the people whose contribution is part of everyday life and too often goes unseen. It is a theme that suits primary-age children, because they understand community long before they understand chronology.
This collection is built for that. These are activity books, colouring books and language books rather than another picture book to be read once and shelved. Children fill them in, work through them at their own pace, and keep them. For a teacher, that also means evidence in books without writing anything extra.
For ages 5 to 10, Little Legends is our Black history activity book: word searches, colouring pages, matching activities and fun facts built around Black leaders, inventors, artists, athletes and scientists. It delivers the Key Stage 1 requirement to teach "the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements" without you having to build a unit from scratch.
For ages 3 to 7, our African language books introduce Igbo and Yoruba with pronunciation audio behind a QR code, so a child, a parent or a teacher who does not speak the language can still say the word correctly. Wazobia Kids brings Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa culture together through clothing, food, music and pattern for ages 4 to 6.
And for the theme itself, Helpers All Around Us introduces 35 community roles through short stories and discussion questions, with a cast that looks like a British classroom.
